The Ducky One 3 Aura Black in mini format in detail
The mechanical gaming keyboard Ducky One 3 is designed to give you the best possible typing feel. Finely crafted all around and optimized for quick response times, the Ducky One 3 offers gamers and keyboard enthusiasts a luxurious typing experience. Additionally, the switches are not soldered, but mounted on sockets, allowing for easy replacement without any soldering required.
This particular version of the Ducky One 3 comes in a 65% SF form factor. By omitting the number pad, function keys, and some navigation keys, it requires even less desk space than a regular TKL keyboard, but is less suitable for office applications. To save space, the arrow keys are also indented.
Mechanical switches in detail: Cherry MX Silent Red
This version uses Cherry MX Silent Red switches. These have a low actuation force and no tactile bump. A tactile bump isn't always necessary in action-packed games like first-person shooters, as the keys tend to be fully pressed in the heat of battle. The Cherry MX Silent Red switches are similar in feel to rubber dome keyboards. Due to their rubber dampers, they are significantly quieter compared to normal mechanical switches, making them ideal for office use, voice chat, and streaming.
QUACK Mechanics
With this keyboard, the manufacturer introduces its QUACK Mechanics design philosophy. Ducky considers four key aspects crucial to the typing experience: keycaps, case, sound, and stabilizers.
This version of the Ducky One 3 therefore offers high-quality keycaps made of polycarbonate (PC). The pudding keycaps are transparent at the bottom and black coated on top, with legends punched out. Ducky casts the keycaps from two layers of plastic. The double-shot process ensures greater durability.
Flat housing and gentle sound
A common criticism of mechanical keyboards is their bulkiness. The newly developed housing of the Ducky One 3 is flatter than its predecessors and, in combination with the three-stage feet, relieves wrist strain.
To improve sound and typing feel, Ducky tested a total of 17 different rubber compounds and selected the most suitable variant for the Q-Bounce pad. This is combined with an additional EVA foam layer to effectively dampen resonance and harsh key strokes while typing.
